ABOUT THIS WORK
Emboldens is a framed original fiber artwork by Lucine Kaplan, created with nylon stockings on a hook surface. Fine black strands trace rounded forms across a pale textured ground, gathering into darker circular details. Sheer layers and open spaces reveal the material beneath, giving this small composition its delicate, intricate character.
Created in 2025, this is No. 2 of the 40 individual works in Unity Puzzle. Kaplan made the collection as one large artwork before slicing it into separate pieces. Each work holds part of the original image and can be collected individually, connecting its owner to the larger composition.
The titles form a poem when read in numerical order. “Emboldens” is the second title, appearing in the opening line: “Resilience emboldens the nucleus.”

The Unity Puzzle poem
Resilience emboldens the nucleus
Body, mind and spirit
Of the unified
Keeping one eye on protection
And the other
To gather, to nurture, to hold
This center
Providing strength
The will to enlighten
To enjoy, to engage
An enemy fears the god
Boundless from within
They pawn against fear itself
Our peace realized together
We must practice unity
For our sanity
Our home, our survival
Mirrors the resilient nature of love
