See below for common questions about Lucine’s practice and collecting. Don’t see your question? Or interested in an original?
THE PRACTICE: PANTYHOSE HOSIERY MEDIUM
Do you use any charcoal or paint to create your pantyhose artworks?
No— the artworks are made entirely out of nylon pantyose. They are considered 100% Fiber Art. No additional medium is used in the process.
How did you discover your pantyhose medium?
I was in high school, AP Art class at Council Rock North, there were maybe 7 of us students. Our teacher, Ms. Hayden, came up with the material concept. She made it an assignment for us to discover the process. I was the only student who nailed it, so I stuck with it and won a bunch of awards and accolades early on. Since, I have evolved my technique for lasting durability. As far as I know, I’m the first and only artist to work with pantyhose as a medium in the 2D way that I do. This piece was the initial experiment.
What do you use for adhesive to get the pantyhose sticking to the canvas?
There is no adhesive on the pantyhose. I hand-make a fiber canvas for the nylon to cling onto.
THE FINAL ARTWORK: COLLECTOR’S GUIDE
Do you do commission originals (custom artwork)?
Absolutely. Please contact me to inquire. Commissions take between six to eight months. All subjects are welcome. Deposits required. Payment plans available.
What’s the difference between originals and prints?
Originals: are the 1-of-a-kind physical creation. With my work being primarily pantyhose hosiery medium, the originals are the fiber art itself. These works have black metal frames with either UV protecting Lucite or Museum Glass for conservation purposes to last generations beyond our years.
Prints: AKA “Fine Art Archival Prints” are images of the originals printed on paper and signed by Lucine. They sell for a significantly lower price than originals. Some of my prints are numbered in limited editions, some are open editions. That info is available in the description. I print on either pearlescent metallic linen or snow white petallic paper. Prints are not typically framed (unless personally requested) and are shipped flat. Shipping can take between 10 - 30 days to arrive.
