In the early 1970s, pantyhose were priced at an accessible 77¢, making them a staple in nearly every woman’s wardrobe. But this seemingly simple garment was part of a much larger cultural shift that was happening across the United States… As pantyhose became ubiquitous and affordable, feminism in America was hitting its stride, and women were fighting for the very freedom that pantyhose symbolized: convenience, mobility, and independence.

I’m excited to share some personal and professional news: I’ve officially taken on the role of Gallery Director at ArtWRKD. For those who know me, ArtWRKD has been a huge part of my artistic journey—first as the Artist in Residence, and later as a represented artist. Now, I’m stepping into this new leadership role, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

In 1777, Paris was a city of stark contradictions. On one side, the aristocratic elite indulged in extravagant fashions and opulent lifestyles, epitomized by Queen Marie Antoinette and her lavish court at Versailles. On the other, the majority of Paris’ population endured harsh living conditions, struggling with rising food prices and economic instability. These social disparities were vividly reflected in something as seemingly simple as hosiery.

Reflecting on my recent solo exhibition presented by ArtWRKD, SHEER JOY (see recap photos of the opening from Jay and Kim, and of the dinner from Kim), I am overwhelmed with a deep sense of gratitude. The support and enthusiasm from everyone who attended has been truly humbling and inspiring. This experience has reminded me of how vital it is to operate from a space of gratitude— not only in our personal and professional lives but also spiritually and in how we interact with the world around us.

In my work with pantyhose as an artistic medium, I find a profound narrative in their fragile nature—a narrative that speaks to both vulnerability and resilience. This duality mirrors contemporary feminist dialogues that emphasize the strength found in embracing one's vulnerabilities.
