Stepping Into a New Role: My Journey from Represented Artist to Gallery Director at ArtWRKD

I’m excited to share some personal and professional news: I’ve officially taken on the role of Gallery Director at ArtWRKD. For those who know me, ArtWRKD has been a huge part of my artistic journey—first as the Artist in Residence, and later as a represented artist. Now, I’m stepping into this new leadership role, and I couldn't be more thrilled.

There’s something really special about being able to shape the future of a space that has shaped me as an artist. ArtWRKD isn’t just any gallery; it’s my hometown gallery. It’s where my career has grown within this community, and it’s always going to be a home for my work. But it’s also more than that—it’s the kind of place I wish we had when I was growing up here in Newtown. Now that it’s here, I want to see it thrive and continue to bring life to the art scene in this town that means so much to me.

I want to be clear: my role as a represented artist and as Gallery Director won’t overlap or interfere. What’s good for ArtWRKD is good for me, and what’s good for me is good for ArtWRKD. As a represented artist, I bring my creative work to the gallery, but as Gallery Director, I’m fully committed to the business side of things—helping the gallery flourish and grow. The two roles complement each other, and I’m deeply invested in both. It’s not about my personal work taking center stage, but about making sure ArtWRKD continues to be a vibrant, inclusive space for all artists.

Newtown needs ArtWRKD. It’s filling a gap that’s been here for far too long, and I’m committed to its growth from every professional angle. I’m so proud to be part of its story and to work alongside the incredible Ashara Shapiro, lead curator and founder, to ensure that ArtWRKD remains a cornerstone of creativity and culture in our community.

I’m looking forward to what’s ahead—both for my own work and for the future of this incredible gallery.
